STOP MAKING SENSE – NO TALKING HEADS

Yes, The Talking Heads made awesome music in the 80s, but when it comes to web videos, The Talking Heads have reverted back to the literal term of average people ranting about nothing.

Think about it:

When was the last time you enjoyed watching someone talking directly into a camera for ten minutes straight? And yes we’ve all heard the rant of “I’m gonna keep it real and not play the commercial junk” AND NO not another DJ video with the laser light show and fog machine!!! Admit it, these videos can become boring and you have a hard time staying focused on what you are watching. If you are bored with what you are seeing, then your viewers probably are too.

Remember the droning teacher when Ferris skipped class? it feels like

“Bueller… Bueller…” the teacher was putting everyone to sleep.

SIZE OF THE WARRIOR

Yes, length does matter. In this case, it’s like a golf game – less is more. 2-3 minutes is a good average time for videos. Remember the rule: Short and Sweet. If your video is any longer, it better be more interesting than the cold beer waiting for me at the 19th Hole.

PLAN AHEAD - SONGS IN THE KEYWORDS OF LIFE

KEYWORDS are popular search terms used by the average Joe to find stuff. Examples: “How To,” “Video,” “Easy,” and “Tips.” They are also:

— Any major brand names

— Anyone in the media

— Any popular topic

Do a quick Google search on the subject of your video. See what pops up and make a list. Next write down a short outline or script and pepper it with these KEYWORDS to use in the video.The trick is to use Google to find the words you are going to use in your script, since these words will eventually drive traffic to your video, which people will watch. These party folks will become interested in you, book you and then BAM! You just made some money from what people love to do, which is search the web.

ASK DIRECT QUESTIONS

Ask a specific question to your viewers and ask people to leave their answer as comments below the videos.

EXAMPLE: Have customers help you name your Mixtape or Song.

CONTESTANT #1

CREATE RIDDLES or set up a PUZZLE and have your viewers solve it inside the comments area. For prizes, give away SWAG, small prizes, and coupons to your establishment.

EXAMPLES: Who is Shizaru? What is Barbie’s mother’s name? In The Godfather, Clemenza told Rocco to leave the gun but take the _____?

JUST BECAUSE

Reward viewers for taking certain actions, such as adding an original comment to your videos, though not as if part of a contest. You can also just randomly give cool something away, like an ice chest with your restaurant’s name on it.

AND THE WINNER IS…

Always have a Camcorder, Flip Camera or Cellphone with a built-in camcorder ready to videotape any winners that visit your establishment. (These videos are so money, it hurts.)

One way to get fans for your site is to provide “How To” videos, which are some of the most popular videos on the internet. Simple topics like “How To mix House into Hip Hop” to “How to Get Past the Door Whore” these can get you started and help you become The Go-To Guru of Night Clubs.

MAKE A DOLLAR OFF YOUR 2 CENTS
Another way to get attention is sharing your reviews of popular subjects in the media. Doing a review of books, movies, TV, theater, or anything folks love and blog about in pop culture will draw attention. The popular titles, topics and subjects alone will drive more traffic to your video.

POP IN SOME TUNES
Open and close your video with music. A short musical introduction and closing always adds to the overall flavor of your film and it’s simple to do. Just make sure that the music is royalty free or that you have the rights to use it.  Want to get people to help promote you—- use your friends music instead of your own.

NARRATION AND TEXT

To spice things up, overlay some text every couple of seconds highlighting certain words, phrases or main concepts. It can be words like “Big Bootie Hoe” or “House-ing All Nite Long” or even “Who Got Goose,”

A PICTURE IS WORTH 1000 ZUCCHINI
Insert some stills that feature the subject you are highlighting. Show some pics of  Dj Equipment Your reviewing, People working the Door, or CD covers.

MAKE ‘EM LAUGH
If writing is not your thing, you can jot down a short outline and then hire an aspiring comedian, screenwriter, or ghostwriter to punch it up for you. The average rate is $30 for a 2-minute video and it gives you the advantage of a professional voice to make your vids memorable. And the good ones usually throw in the jokes for free.

SHAMELESS BRANDING
Add a title at the beginning and end of your video that features your restaurant name and web address. Also known as Into/Outro titles.

ADD A WATERMARK
Just make sure it on the lower LEFT HAND side, since YouTube will put their watermark on the lower right hand side.
