STOP MAKING SENSE – NO TALKING HEADS

Yes, The Talking Heads made awesome music in the 80s, but when it comes to web videos, The Talking Heads have reverted back to the literal term of average people ranting about nothing.

Think about it:

When was the last time you enjoyed watching someone talking directly into a camera for ten minutes straight? And yes we’ve all heard the rant of “I’m gonna keep it real and not play the commercial junk” AND NO not another DJ video with the laser light show and fog machine!!! Admit it, these videos can become boring and you have a hard time staying focused on what you are watching. If you are bored with what you are seeing, then your viewers probably are too.

Remember the droning teacher when Ferris skipped class? it feels like

“Bueller… Bueller…” the teacher was putting everyone to sleep.

SIZE OF THE WARRIOR

Yes, length does matter. In this case, it’s like a golf game – less is more. 2-3 minutes is a good average time for videos. Remember the rule: Short and Sweet. If your video is any longer, it better be more interesting than the cold beer waiting for me at the 19th Hole.

PLAN AHEAD - SONGS IN THE KEYWORDS OF LIFE

KEYWORDS are popular search terms used by the average Joe to find stuff. Examples: “How To,” “Video,” “Easy,” and “Tips.” They are also:

— Any major brand names

— Anyone in the media

— Any popular topic

Do a quick Google search on the subject of your video. See what pops up and make a list. Next write down a short outline or script and pepper it with these KEYWORDS to use in the video.The trick is to use Google to find the words you are going to use in your script, since these words will eventually drive traffic to your video, which people will watch. These party folks will become interested in you, book you and then BAM! You just made some money from what people love to do, which is search the web.

DON’T MESS WITH THE GOOGLE GODS

Yes they do use humans to verify that what is writing in the Title and Description are indeed in the videos. So don’t stuff your Title and Description with just a list of keywords. Use those words to make coherent and complete sentences, and make sure that they indeed have something to do with your video.

USE TITLE OR HEADLINE

“How to” is the most powerful way to start a title. Also include the word “Video” in your titles because people do search for it. Use this same title for your Blog post title. Make sure to KEYWORD the TITLES and SUBJECTS you are using, so they show up on search engines.

MAX OUT THE DESCRIPTION AREA

The description area is where the magic happens. Some things to keep in mind:

1) The first 25 words will be used by the search engine.

What that means is that if someone searches for a video these are the words used to find

a video.

2) You can add your web site Url in the description. Be sure to have the complete

url http:// so that it will be a direct link.

3) Include any major brands and topics with a link to their site, since this will help draw

traffic back to you when people search for them.

YouTube pulls these images from 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 time marks. Pick the best out of the three. NOTE: if you do change it, it does take about six (6) hours for it to switch over.

PASS THE GRAVY

Give polls, riddles, just for fun and tell followers to respond back for special offers.

Who would u hire 4 a bachelorette party? the “Las Vegas” or the “Young” Elvis?

Were does this line come from?: “Nobody puts baby in the corner.”

Which not true?: Prevents onion tears – put it in the freezer, run cold water over it, or wet your arms.

KEEP YOUR FRIENDS CLOSE…

Most people who join your site are going to be visitors who have grown to trust you. Pay attention to your followers and what they are doing and engage in conversation. Reach out to people who ask questions and do your best to provide good answers without simply promoting your events.

MAXIMIZE @REPLIES

Here is an example of reaching out by making your @replies useful to everyone. When you reply to someone, make the most of that reply so other followers can benefit. Example:

Someone asks you what “What a cool downtempo lounge in Amsterdam?”

You could simply reply: @username Dolphins

However, there’s a slight problem with this answer. Your followers did not see the original question. So even if they know what Champin Le Seigneur Cote Rotie is, they have no idea what you are talking about unless they click the person’s username to find the question.

A better reply would be:

@username Dolphins is a cool Downtempo Coffehouse in the heart of Amsterdam .

Not only have you helped a curious follower, but you also provided information that your other followers may find useful. Thorough replies like this also add value to your recent Twitter stream, as I mentioned above.

(Note: Twitter made an update in May so that when you begin a tweet (reply) with @username, the only people who see it is the person you are replying to and anyone who is following both of you. So if you want everyone to see your reply make sure to incase your reply in quotes “@username”. Now it’s a reply and everyone else can see it as well.)
